With its flat terrain and smoothly surfaced paths, Yosemite Valley is well-suited for bicycling. In 2018, your support funded a pilot bike-share program designed to offer campers in the Valley an environmentally sustainable alternative to driving to nearby locations, such as Yosemite Village. The pilot aimed to encourage people to use the bikes for quick trips, such as running errands to restock on camping supplies, instead of turning on their cars and adding to traffic congestion.
The program launched over the summer, when dockless bikes were deployed at Yosemite Valley campgrounds. Grant-funded work also included the development of a mobile app that visitors can use to unlock, ride and return bikes. Through this pilot, park staff aim to test the potential for a more comprehensive bike-share program to help limit vehicle traffic and emissions.
Your contribution helped the park pilot a new program to expand eco-friendly transit options and reduce the number of cars on Valley roads.
