The Search and Rescue (SAR) team in Wawona oversees emergency operations in the southern part of Yosemite, including the Yosemite Ski and Snowboard Area. In the winter, Wawona-based SAR crewmembers often traverse snow-covered terrain to rescue injured, lost or stranded snowshoers and skiers. The team relies on snowmobiles to get to and from emergency sites quickly and safely, but their fleet of machines is aging and unreliable.

This grant funded a new snowmobile for the Wawona SAR team, significantly upgrading their available equipment to help ensure the safety of rescuers and visitors. The new snowmobile will also be available for use in other park emergency operations, and for trainings in Yosemite and nearby parks.

Your gifts made much-needed improvements to Wawona-based rescue efforts to help keep responders and visitors safe.
