New to backpacking? This is the trip for you! Join one of our naturalist guides for a casual weekend adventure along Yosemite Valley’s scenic south rim. You’ll learn how to load and fit your pack, select and set up a campsite, cook a satisfying camp meal, minimize your impact on your surroundings, and much more. As you dive into backpacking basics, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Valley and far-off peaks from Dewey Point where you’ll camp for the night. Throughout the trip you will learn about the landscape’s natural and cultural history. By the time you and fellow adventurers hop off the trail, you’ll be ready to tackle your own overnight trek!

Included with your registration:

  • Two-day backpacking adventure (9 am on Saturday, June 27 to approximately 2 pm on Sunday, June 28, depending on the speed of the group) plus an introductory meeting on Friday, June 26 at Upper Pines Campground.
  • Bear-canister rental and wilderness permit.
  • Park entry (as needed).
  • Two nights of tent camping before and after the trip at Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley, if needed (available Friday, June 26 and Sunday, June 28).
    • Our limited camping sites are for participants only. The sites are shared. Tents only. We cannot adjust the dates.

Note: There is no discount if you choose not to use our gate pass, campsites, wilderness permits or bear-canister rental. There are no accommodations arranged other than camping for this program.
