Spring is a magical time in Yosemite Valley — not least because it’s moonbow season! Snowmelt flowing over Yosemite’s famous waterfalls creates perfect conditions for moonbows, or lunar rainbows, which result when bright moonlight shines on rushing water.

Since moonbows are often only visible through a camera lens, they can be tricky to observe, but you’re in luck: On this weekend adventure, you’ll have the opportunity to spend two evenings learning all the secrets behind capturing this spectacular phenomenon. Your guide, an expert local photographer, will share insider tips, including where and when to set up your camera, and how to use special techniques to capture vibrant shots. End each night equipped with all you need to know to create an incredible moonbow image and your very own series of photos from a memorable experience in Yosemite.

Included with your registration:

  • Two evenings of instruction, consisting of an indoor presentation followed by outdoor photography (5 pm to approximately midnight each evening).
  • Park entry (as needed).
  • Three nights of tent camping at Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley, if needed (arrive Thursday, June 4 and depart Sunday, June 7).
    • Note: Our limited camping sites are for participants only. The sites are shared. Tents only. We cannot adjust the dates.
  • Option to upgrade accommodations to Yosemite Valley Lodge (arrive Thursday, June 4 and depart Sunday, June 7).
    • Information about upgrading your accommodations will be emailed to you after you sign up. The option expires 30 days before the program and does not offer a discount. We cannot adjust the dates.

Note:

  • There is no discount if you choose not to use our gate pass or campsites.
  • No photography experience is required for this program.
  • Participants should be prepared for a short hike after dark, in wet conditions.
