Your guides will lead you on an exclusive tour of Yosemite habitats in search of species ranging from canyon wrens to peregrine falcons. You’ll explore forests, meadows and cliffs as your guides share identification techniques and insider knowledge about the ecology and seasonality of local birds.
Your adventure will kick off with a very special bird-banding session led by NPS Ornithologist Sarah Stock on Wednesday from 6-10 am. You’ll experience the joy of holding a delicate bird and learn the science behind songbird conservation in an exclusive setting: Ackerson Meadow. Then enjoy a few hours of birding with naturalist Kaleb Goff.
From 6-10 am on Thursday, you’ll enjoy a second round of bird-banding with Sarah Stock, this time at Crane Flat. After an afternoon break and dinner on your own, you’ll meet in the evening to explore the habits and habitats of the region’s bats with researcher Lisa Murphy, who is using state-of-the-art equipment to track these flying mammals. Learn how bats use echolocation to navigate after dark, and about the critical role they play in the park’s ecosystems.
On Friday, you’ll set out early to fit in a half-day of birdwatching with naturalist Kaleb Goff. Then you’re free to head out just as the crowds flock to the park for the busy weekend.
