Favorite Yosemite Activity: Climbing the north ridge of Mt Conness!
Memorable Yosemite moment: Feeling my baby kick for the first time while watching sunset over the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne from Glen Aulin
Shannon immigrated to Yosemite from Australia in September of 2020, in the midst of the Creek Fire. Dense smoke in Yosemite Valley obscured the steep granite cliffs and she did not get her first glimpse of Half Dome until more than a week after arriving. Making up for lost time, she quickly borrowed a harness, found a mentor and spent the rest of the fall exploring as much of Yosemite’s vertical wilderness as she could reach. A deep love for the High Sierra and it’s expansive wilderness was born! Shannon started with Yosemite Conservancy as a Wilderness Reservations Assistant at the beginning of 2021, and now works closely with the National Park Service to manage the Wilderness permit reservation system and bear canister rental program to protect and preserve the Yosemite Wilderness and the Wilderness experience for all it’s visitors. She also manages the historic Ostrander Ski Hut, connecting generations of Sierra Skiers with Yosemite’s winter Wilderness.
