Favorite Yosemite activity: Exploring the park with her kids and finding new places that never fail to impress and take her breath away.
Memorable Yosemite moment: Walking in the upper reaches of Mariposa Grove at sunrise with only deer and songbirds to keep her company. A filmy layer of early morning mist kissed the toes of the trees; brilliant light reflected the sequoias’ rich crimson bark. Inhale. Exhale. Rejuvenation at its best.
Schuyler grew up in Maine and hopscotched her way west via studies at Georgetown University; the University of Colorado, Boulder; and the University of Idaho. She visited Yosemite for the first time while working on a master’s project with the Wildlife Conservation Society about black bear nutrition. After chasing bears around the Valley for three summers, and meeting her husband, she was hooked on the park. As the Conservancy’s chief of projects, Schuyler leads the team that manages grant-funded projects in the park, in close coordination with National Park Service leadership, researchers and project managers.
