The Yosemite Association, in conjunction with the Central and Southern Sierra Wilderness Education Project, awarded student Alicia Jordan and teacher Maynard Medefind scholarships to attend the Yosemite Winter Literary Conference, to be held February 24-28, 2002 at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park.
The winning team will take part in workshops, panel discussions, and informal sessions at the conference, which includes presentations by Pulitzer-Prize winner Gary Snyder, and noted author Maxine Hong Kingston. In addition, the winning team will document their experience with words and images on the WildLink website while attending the conference.
The winners were
required to submit a creative piece expressing the relevance of the Sierra
Nevada to the people of California. A panel of judges from the Yosemite community
chose the winning entry on the basis of creativity, enthusiasm, teamwork and
the quality of the submission. To view the winning entry visit http://wildlink.wilderness.net.
The Yosemite Winter Literary Conference is sponsored by the Yosemite Association,
a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of Yosemite National Park,
