Yosemite is Adding Bus Runs by Steve Elliott Special YARTS buses will run today and Tuesday on Highway 120 to help bring Independence Day visitors to Yosemite National Park. Normally, the Highway 120 buses only run on weekends. Today, the western Highway 120 route will run. The bus begins in Coulterville and goes through Greeley Hill and Buck Meadow on its way into the park. The eastern Highway 120 route will run today and Tuesday. The bus goes from Mammoth Lakes into Yosemite Valley. Routes along Highway 140 and inside the park run daily. "We understand that many people would rather have someone else do the driving during busy holiday weekends," said Jess Brown, Yosemite Area Rapid Transit System executive director. To guarantee a seat, YARTS riders should get tickets ahead of time. Fares range from $7 to $20 and include the park entry fee, normally $20 a car. "When you add those costs associated with driving a private vehicle into the park with the value of letting someone else handle the holiday traffic, YARTS really does make a great value," Brown said. YARTS tickets can be purchased at several locations throughout Merced and Mariposa counties. Call (877) 989-2787 for schedule information, or log on to the YARTS Web site at www.yosemite.com/yarts for full schedule and route information, as well as a list of locations that sell YARTS tickets. |
