BASE Jumpers Plan Service for Jan Davis in November

The Fresno Bee - October 26, 1999

BASE jumpers announced Monday that they are planning a memorial service for Jan Davis. It most likely will be Nov. 8, said Mick Knutson, who runs an Internet magazine about BASE jumping called BLiNC.

Knutson, who leaped from El Capitan moments before Davis fell to her death, said he would announce the time and location of the service this week.

Although no site for the memorial service has been selected, Knutson said organizers hope to hold it in Yosemite National Park or Fresno.

The purpose of the gathering is not just for a memorial to Davis, but also to continue the fight to legalize BASE jumping in Yosemite, Knutson said.

"It's what Jan would want," Knutson said. "This is going to be big. We're hoping to get several thousands of people."
