  • Bracebridge Dinner Discount for YA Members
    .
The Bracebridge Dinner is a unique Yosemite tradition of grand propor-
tion. Held annually since 1927, the event transforms The Ahwahnee into a 17th century English manor for a feast of food, song and mirth.

The program is an elegant and artistic three-hour pageant of classic carols, Renaissance rituals, Middle Age music and sumptuous food. Over 100 players create the roles of the squire and his family, their servants, the Lord of Misrule, minstrels and other performers. The Ahwahnee Dining Room serves as the Great Hall and stage for the festivities and is decked with magnificent wreaths, an elaborate squire's table, large banners and traditional yuletide decorations.

There are still tickets for all seatings available from DNC Parks & Resorts at Yosemite (the park's main concessioner). And if you're a YA member who'd like to attend the dinner on December 15th, 21st, or 24th, you can save $25 from the regular price.

Call (559) 253-5684, identify yourself as a YA member, mention this special offer, and you'll pay only $275 for the lavish seven-course feast prepared by The Ahwahnee's world-class culinary staff (for December 15, 21, and 24 only). It's an experience you won't soon forget.

New Opportunities to Enjoy Yosemite in Winter!
    .
Looking for an excuse to come to Yosemite an extra time this winter (though who really needs one)? YA is offering two exciting winter courses this January. Recently retired teacher and former park ranger Roger McGehee will lead a three-day session on winter ecology over the holiday weekend of January 15 to 17. While enjoying the serene beauty of the winter landscape in Yosemite, you'll learn many aspects about nature's winter wonderland. Destinations include hiking in Yosemite Valley, and snowshoeing to both the Merced and Tuolumne Groves of Giant Sequoias.

For those wanting to photograph Yosemite in its most spectacular season, join John Senser from January 27 to 30 for his Winter Landscape Photography course. He'll cover a variety of topics essential to working with landscapes in winter, and you'll have ample opportunities to photograph picturesque Yosemite Valley.

    Tuolumne Rangers Enjoying Early Snow
It's been several weeks since it snowed in the Tuolumne Meadows high country, but thanks to the earliest snow in several years, skiing's been great! Winter rangers Bruce and Tracey have begun posting their reports on conditions in Tuolumne, and their observations on snow and avalanche conditions, weather, and wildlife are quite interesting.

In their report dated November 24, they noted seeing signs of some familiar neighbors: "We have seen bear tracks at the upper end of Lyell Canyon and at tree line on Unicorn Peak. Most of them are several days old but the snow reveals their presence regardless of the wintery conditions."

We will be posting the ranger reports from Tuolumne Meadows all winter long in the "Diary" section of the Yosemite Association web site. Click on the link below to read what Tracey and Bruce have observed so far this fall.
