  • Spend Your Thanksgiving in Tuolumne Meadows?

Unless an unexpected storm blows in, the Tioga Road across Yosemite should be open for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend!

There's no overnight parking along the road, but the fall day hiking has been terrific. Relatively warm days and sunny skies have made for seldom-experienced autumn conditions.

If other obligations keep you from visiting in person (or yu're just too far away), check out the new web cam image of the Tioga Pass area we've added to our web site.

Made possible through the courtesy of the Climate Research Divison of Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, the view is updated approximately four times daily.

Now you can check out conditions at Tioga Pass at any time of the year.

And by the way, everyone at the Yosemite Association wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving, wherever you are!

Give a Gift of YA Membership - or Become a Member Yourself!

If you give a family member or friend the gift of a Yosemite Association membership (or buy one for yourself), everyone will be happy! You'll connect family and friends (or yourself) to the wonders of Yosemite, receive some impressive member benefits, and help support our important work at the same time!

Along with their memberships, we will send your gift recipients a personalized gift announcement card and your choice of either our striking 2006 Yosemite calendar, or a handsome and practical canvas tote bag that features a full-color Phil Frank cartoon offering “Greetings from Yosemite National Park.”

Dues start at just $35 Memberships at the "Supporting" ($60) level and above also come with additional thank-you gifts.

You can order now through our on-line store; just enter the name and address of your gift membership recipient in the "Ship To" field, and enter any special message or instructions in the "Comments" field.

You can also order over the phone by calling (209) 379-2317.

The Latest Fad in National Parks: Growing Marijuana!

Hikers in Yosemite and Sequoia-Kings Canyon are encountering a danger more hazardous than bears: illegal marijuana farms run by Mexican drug cartels and protected by booby traps and guards carrying AK-47s.

It may sound crazy, but it's true.

Last year, National Park Service officers seized about 60,000 marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of $240 million, from national parks in California.

What's the National Park Service, an agency with a mission to protect resources for future generations, to do?
