| When Will the Snow Plows Clear the Tioga
Road? |
 |
|
Though National Park Service snow plows have been hard at
work on the Tioga Road, there is still no estimated opening
date for 2006. For those interested in following the progress
of the crews working to clear Yosemite's trans-Sierra
crossing, check out the Tioga Road Plowing Update
that's posted on the NPS web site.
Besides a daily report on the work of the plows, there's a
list of opening dates since 1980 and the factors affecting
plowing operations and the opening date.
In other Yosemite road-related news, the Glacier Point
Road is now officially open for the season!

| Work Set to Begin on Yosemite Lodge
Project |
 |
|
Almost a decade after the Merced River swept away parts of
Yosemite Lodge, it finally is time to rebuild — to demolish
old buildings and pour concrete in Yosemite Valley.
The millions of people who enjoy views of El Capitan and
Half Dome are likely to notice dust flying in June at the
lodge, which has operated with about half the number of
rooms it had before the 1997 flood.
One of the most notable changes included in the
rehabilitation: Traffic will be rerouted so people can avoid
crossing a major road on their way to iconic Yosemite Falls.
Some environmental groups have criticized the project, but
NPS officials believe that the Lodge remodel and road
relocation "is going to tremendously improve visitor
enjoyment."

project by following the link below.
